VA Disability Chart: the combined ratings table and calculator

VA does not add disability ratings, it combines them. This is the chart VA uses to do it (Table I, 38 CFR 4.25), a calculator that runs the same math including the bilateral factor, and the 2026 pay chart that turns the final rating into a monthly amount.

Enter each service-connected rating. Tick Bilateral for a rating on one side of a pair (an arm, a leg, or paired skeletal muscles) when the other side is also rated: the calculator applies the 38 CFR 4.26 bilateral factor, including the rule that leaves a rating out of the factor when that pays better. Ratings of 0% do not change the math and can be left out.

Why 50% + 30% is 70%, not 80%

VA rates the whole person. A 50% disability leaves you 50% efficient; a second 30% disability takes 30% of what is left (15 points), not 30 points. 50 + 15 is a combined value of 65, and VA rounds that once, at the end, to 70%. The regulation's own example works exactly this way, and so does the calculator above. The full reasoning, with more worked examples, is in how VA math works.

The three pieces

Bilateral Factor

The 10% bonus for paired arms, legs, and muscles under 38 CFR 4.26, when it applies, and the 2023 rule that keeps it from ever lowering your rating.

2027 rates: the Social Security Administration has announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027. VA compensation follows the same percentage, so rates rise again on December 1, 2026. The chart above is the 2026 schedule VA is paying now; it will be replaced here when VA publishes the 2027 tables.
